Day 3 - Sigiriya - Polonnaruwa
After breakfast visit the Rock Fortress of Sigiriya, famous for its frescoes of
"Heavenly Maidens".
Sigiriya - The Lion Rock - a world heritage site - is a massive square shaped block of granite 600 ft high that rises dramatically out of the jungle built by King Kasyapa in the 5th century.
This was a royal citadel for more than 18 years.

In a sheltered pocket, approached by a spiral stairway are the famous frescoes. The summit of the rock with a huge area was the site of the palace, the outer wall of which was built on the very brink of the precipice. There are gardens, cisterns and ponds laid out attractively.

Leave for an afternoon sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa the Medieval Capital of Sri-Lanka.

Polonnaruwa - rose to fame after the decline of Anuradhapura. The city in its days was fortified with three concentric walls, beautiful parks and gardens and sanctified by many shrines. A unique irrigation complex watered the city as well as the surrounding plains. The man made reservoirs here is larger in size than Colombo Harbour. Ruins of King's Council Chamber, Royal Pavilion (11th century Hindu Temple), Gal Vihare - with the most impressive sculptures, Tivanka Image House and the huge statue at Aukana 43 feet high are the various places of interest here.

Day 4 - Anuradapura
After breakfast leave for a full day excursion to Anuradhapura, the 5th Century BC Capital of Sri Lanka.

Anuradhapura - was the first capital of Sr-Lanka in 5th Century BC. This city was a model of planning with precincts set aside for huntsmen, scavengers, heretics as well as for foreigners. The monuments of its heyday still survive under the serenity of the sheltering sky. The Sri Mahabodhi Tree- worlds oldest authenticated tree, Abhayagiri Dagaba Jetavanaramaya - built by King Mahasen, The Brazen Palace, The Samadhi Buddha are few of the interesting places to visit in Anuradhapura.

Late afternoon spent at leisure.

Day 5 - To Kandy
After breakfast visit the 5 cave temples in Dambulla and proceed to Kandy, one of the most visually stunning regions of Sri Lanka. En-route to Kandy your chauffeur will stop at a Batik factory and a Spice garden. A great place to taste a typical Sri Lankan curry is at the Aluvihare Kitchen in Matale. Local cuisine usually is very spicy and could get a bit too hot to handle!

Kandy - Sri Lanka's hill capital, the stronghold of Sinhala Kings is a beautiful town. The focal point of the town is The Golden temple where the Sacred Tooth Relic of Buddha is enshrined and at the heart of Kandy lies this beautiful artificial lake created in 1807 by the last king Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe. Each year during the festival of Esala Perahera the replica of the relic casket is taken on Elephant back in procession accompanied by torch bearers, exotically costumed dancers, drummers and about 80 Elephants during glittering nights of July/August.

Overnight in Hotel Topaz / The Tourmaline for 2 nights(3*D)

Day 6 - Pinnawela
After Breakfast set out for a morning excursion to Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage.

Pinnawela - An orphanage run by the government for orphaned or wounded Elephants. You will be able to see around 50 or more Elephants being bathed and fed including baby Elephants being bottled fed from outsize milk bottles.

Afternoon city tour of Kandy including a visit to the temple of the Sacred tooth relic, Art & Crafts workshop, and the Bazaars. Also visit the Royal botanical gardens. This evening you will be treated to a Kandyan dance and cultural performance.

Day 7 - To Nuwara Eliya
After breakfast proceed to Nuwara Eliya also known by many as little England. The Kandy to Nuwara Eliya journey could also be done by train in the observation car, as per your choice. A visit to one of the tea plantations and factory could be made en route.

Nuwara Eliya - This picturesque hill station (6600 feet) was built after the English explorer Sir Samuel Baker who arrived here in 1846 and decided it was a perfect place to recreate England in the tropics. Homes in style from Georgian to Queen Anne, well kept lawns with hedges, an Anglican Church, the famous golf course and beautiful parks give the place an air of nostalgia. Acres and acres of tea with its rich green foliage extend miles across and no visit to this hill country is complete without a visit to a tea estate.
